Best Smallmouth bass rivers

Best bass fishing for smallmouth bass is in the St.Lawrence river. We have fished for bass in the St.Lawrence river for many years. The St.Lawrence river located in upstate New York is one of the best bass and pike fishing rivers in the world. Bass and pike fishing from Alexandria Bay to Lake Ontario is great as long as you know where to find the bass. If you are not sure you can ask the or hire a fishing guide. You can ask some of the local fisherman or try and locate the bass and pike yourself. It is very important that your boat is equipped with a fish finder or depth finder. It will be much harder to find the shoals and weed beds without one.Once you have launched your boat make sure to check out the shoals that are about 15 to 30 feet below the surface with deep water off there edges. Most of the shoals are marked with a float. You want to anchor your boat upriver to the shoal, upriver meaning the current is heading downriver toward the ocean. The St Lawrence river is full of shoals and a good topo map can help in locating them. The bass are deep in August and September, shallow in late June bass fishing does not open until the third weekend of June. July as the water warms up the bass will move to deeper water.
